Importance of educating others on global citizenship
Global citizenship, as defined, is the caring, embracing the culture diversity as well as the creation of awareness in the mind of both young and the old in the promotion of social justice. This knowledge is important for the students as it equips the learners with the needs to embrace the sense of responsibility in the environment as well as reaching out for one another in the community to give a helping hand where necessary. The presenter from the video further explains that one who embraces global citizenship can identify with others from diverse social, the cultural and economic background of the world(YouTube, 2012).
In addition, the presenter interviews others who are of the opinion that global citizen identifies with one another and that they can live together in a community across the world. One can understand the political, ecological and religious issues that affect others in different parts of the world hence feel with them and look into ways of helping them solve their issues(YouTube, 2012).
How the following outcomes of global citizenship pertain to the development of my identity?
As a global citizen, intergroup empathy pertains to my identity in that, it I help to understand valuing diversity as well as relate to other people who are from different parts of the world. The skills in me as a global citizen will propel me to identify, feel with and cooperate with individuals who not only belongs to my country but also from other countries. This understanding creates an environment which allows one to help those in need within a community(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
The environment, therefore, influences intergroup empathy by molding and individual to be a social being by being approachable in a community to give assistance where possible. Empathy also starts from the immediate surrounding that includes the relationship with my people to reaching out to others who do not belong to my culture or race(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
As a global citizen, I would understand that not everyone is rich to have all the necessities as well as everyone being too poor to afford anything for their needs. Therefore, there is the need to share what we have with others in our community and across the world. As recorded in the article, social justice means standing up for one another be it in providing food, healthcare services, and legal assistances to the needy, it should be done accordingly(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
The environment will influence the social justice because a community whereby the inhabitants are global citizens, they will be welcoming and give services to others in need without demanding for pay. Such an environment, young people grow up knowing that whatever little in our possession, we should share with others as well as defend them from any harm. Such individuals from such a humble environment will be a blessing to the world as opposed to people from a harsh environment where exploitation of the poor is their means of survival(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
As a global citizen, environmental sustainability should be my top priority because for the natural resources of waters, forests, and solar energy among, are needed by every being and the generations to come. Therefore, there is a concern to conserve them for the next generation to have a share and make use of the resource in the environment. This shapes my identity by conserving the available resources to be used shortly by everyone across the borders(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
The environment shapes environment sustainability by everyone in the community being conscious to sustaining the available resources, failure to which the environment will be harsh to sustain lives in it, an example is deserted(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
This role enables me understand that helping those in need does not make me a lesser being but practicing my role as a global citizen who is not limited by the boundaries of a country, but helps anyone regardless of nationality, race or tribe(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
An environment that is occupied by selfish individuals may fail to embrace the need to help one another to better the world. It is only in an environment that inhibits global citizens that will embrace one another and give a helping hand where possible across the world(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
The level of responsibility to act
As a global citizen, have come to understand and embrace different culture from which people come from. By doing this, I can live together with other communities in the same environment even if they belong to a different cultural background. Therefore, the environment will influence our responsibility by engaging in practices that will attract others into areas we live rather than scare them away(Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013).
Personal experience and analysis
One evening as we walked home after classes, a caught up with Rooney and initiated a conversation as to why he was never a good time keeper to class and never hard most of the class requirement. I learned that he was a refugee who was striking to make both ends meet and with his parents and siblings nowhere to be traced, he was left to survive by the good Samaritans. I had to share the little I had regarding books, clothing’s and invited him to live with me.
On a second experience, I was walking downtown when I was attacked and robbed, and I was new in the town. I had to ask out for help, but very few listened to my story on the street until a lady stopped and pitied me by giving me some bus fare back to my hometown. Surely this were good acts of being a global citizen at every point in life, because were it not for me, the Rooney would have dropped out from school. Similarly, were it that the lady was not a global citizen I would have spent the night in the streets.
